Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa and the chief reservoir of the White Nile. Its waters fill a shallow depression in the centre of the great plateau that stretches between the Western and Eastern Rift Valleys, Lake victoria borders 3 countries in Africa that is Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, it has two major outflows which are River Nile which is the longest river in the world and the Victoria Nile. Lake Victoria was named after Queen Victoria by the explorer John Hanning Speke around the year 1858 while on his adventurous tour to Uganda; furthermore Lake Victoria is the second largest fresh water body in the world after Lake Superior in North America. Lake Victoria is called Nalubaale in Luganda and Nyanza in Kinyarwanda and it was formally called Ukerewe by the locals who lived around it. Lake Victoria harbours a great number of wildlife such as reptiles, mammals, fishing among others thus attracting a great number of tourists on Uganda safaris, Kenya safaris and Tanzania tours. Lake Victoria has a surface area of about 68,800 square kilometres which can make over 26,600 square miles. Woo… indeed Lake Victoria is the largest fresh water body in Africa.
