LAKE MBURO NATIONAL PARK
Lake Mburo National Park is found in Kiruhura district just a few kilometers from Lyantonde town, it’s the nearest National park to Kampala capital city of Uganda with approximately 240kms by road. Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest National Park with about 260 square Kms, it being the smallest didn’t stop it to have a variety of animals for example Lake Mburo is known for having the largest population of Zebra about 5000 in number, not only that, Lake Mburo is also known for being the only park in the country with Impala, Eland, and Klipspringer, other animals are Warthog, African buffalo, African Leopard and many more. Lake Mburo National Park is blessed with over 300 bird species; the Banyankole and Bahima who are no longer residents in park are still granted an opportunity to graze their cattle in the park. Lake Mburo National Park is a very special place because every part of the park is alive, interesting and magically colorful due to the sculptured landscape, rolling hills, seasonal and permanent swamps, and the five lakes on its boundaries with Lake Mburo as the largest.
Lake Mburo National Park is located in the western region of Uganda in Kiruhura district. It’s the smallest national park but with a variety of wildlife and about 300 bird species. The Game drive at Lake Mburo National Park is massive because the park is strategically located, favorable climate ranges. The nocturnal game drive is one of the most memorable game drives at Lake Mburo National Park because are great chances of spotting a variety of animals for example the Impala which are only found in this park, the large herds of Eland, zebras, African buffalo. The wild life spear headed the game drive activity because while on the game drive tourists feel closely in touch with the animals. The Game drive runs all through the park.
Lake Mburo National Park is known for having the largest zebra population in the country with approximately 5000 in number. Its indeed a memorable moment to watch the Burch ell’s zebra, the tracking runs all the way to Ruroko track junction through the wetlands, thick acacia woodland marked by olive trees and it’s while on this that you might get a chance to spot a klipspringer found only in this park and if you climb the splendid Kazuma hill you can see the magic of Lake Mburo National Park.
Lake Mburo National Park managed to position itself as a right destination for birder with its great spots on the swamps of Warukiri and Miriti. Lake Mburo National Park has over 300 bird species namely Rufous-bellied Heron, Red headed lovebird, Brown parrot, Grey crowned crane, Bare-faced Go-away bird, Red-faced Barbet, Green woudhoopoe, Yellow- breasted Apalis and others. These birds will brighten your day with their colors and their sounds.
Horse riding is one of the great ventures at Lake Mburo National Park. Lake Mburo is the only park that offers Horseback riding safari, it creates bonding of people with animals because the visitor gets an opportunity to spend time with the animal riding on its back, it becomes more interesting when visitors engage into a picnic breakfast along the animals.
Nature walks at Lake Mburo National Park will forever be magical, full of surprises, talk of the nature walk to Kazuma Hill you will experience paradise on earth due to the view of the beautiful plain savannah of Lake Mburo National Park, the five lakes seen while on the top of the hill and for the birders when you go in the deep ends of Rubanga Forest you will see all kinds of birds.
Uganda has only two parks that provide sport fishing encounter and that’s Murchison Falls National Park and Lake Mburo National Park. While at Lake Mburo National Park visits who would like to take part in fishing are given an opportunity at the shores of Mazinga, they deal with 6 fish species including the famous Tilapia. The fishermen here help visitors to lay their nets which are authorized by the government, catch fish and even they are taught how to preserve it like smoking and others
It’s usually done on the largest lake which is Lake Mburo, it’s a great experience as your sailing on the water getting a chance to see the hippopotamus, birds flying all over the place, it’s a great spot for photography.
It’s a new activity at Lake Mburo National Park and its popular at Mantana tented camp, it’s done between groups at most 5 people competing against each other ,trust me it will offer you a great memorable experience of your life.
