7 DAYS RWENZORI HIKE
Mountain Rwenzori is found in western Uganda at the border with Congo. It is also referred to as the mountains of the moon and it is the tallest mountain in Uganda. It is located 301km away from Kampala and this takes around 6 hours. The peak of mountain Rwenzori, Margherita is covered with snow throughout year with beautiful streams of water flowing down hence contributing to Uganda’s status of being the Pearl of Africa

Day 1: Arrival at Entebbe Airport.
Upon the arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be welcomed by our company representatives who will then transfer you to the hotel in Kampala to and refresh Rochester hotel/Avesta hotel/Speke hotel.
Embark on journey en route to Kasese. Make a stopover in Fortportal for late lunch at garden’s restaurant. Visit the palace of the Omukama of Tooro kingdom and Amabere ga nyina mwiru. Proceed to Kasese town. Dinner and overnight stay Equator Snow Geo Lodge/Hotel Margherita/TJ Global Hotel Kasese.
Day 2: Hike to Sine camp (2,596m)
After your early morning breakfast, move to Trekkers hostel in Kyanjuki, Kilembe located 12 km from Kasese town. This is where the trek to Weisman’s peak starts. Walk 2.2km to UWA Ranger’s office. This takes about an hour. Clear entry fees then rangers will brief you on park rules.
Start the trek at 1,450m and sleep at Sine Hut at 2,59m being a height gain of 1,146m. In the beginnings you will walk up the valley floor through tall forests of Afro montane forest zone. Expect troupes of 15 to 20 Black and white colobus monkeys as they scamper off through the forest. Wild chimpanzees will be heard too in the distance.
At Sine camp 2,596m there are wooden huts set between tall forest trees on a narrow ridge where you may sit and enjoy the beauty of the Afro montane forest while you look down at a fantastic waterfall crashing over rocks below. You could make campfire and chat with guides during the night. Overnight stay Sine Hut.
Day 3: Butawu Camp & Hunwick’s camp (3,974m)
Have your morning breakfast at 8:30am. With your packed lunch, enter Bamboo-Mimulopsis zone. It is a steep climb with many high steps. Rainy season it is rather muddy. The trail meanders up and over small knolls to the top and then drops down the side of the valley before climbing again and in doing so it crosses several small streams and passes close to moss covered waterfalls.
Various plants and flowers are found here like Giant Heather trees whose trunks are covered in green moss and Usnea lichen. The valley is unique with many giant Heather trees. Overnight stay Bugata camp.
Day 4: Hike to Bugata Camp (4,062m)
After your morning breakfast, trek 4 to 9km starting from altitude 3,974m to 4,062m. The trail is boggy especially in the wet season. Broad walks are being built in this place. The trail climbs steadily to Bugata camp at altitude 4,062m. You will rest and have your packed lunch.
Bugata Lake with views across Lake Kopello to Weismann’s peak often covered with snow. The area has everlasting flowers, St John’s Wort, giant groundsel, Giant lobelia, tussock grass. There are many Red forest duiker which is a sub species only found in Rwenzori Mountains. Sleep at Bugata camp.
Day 5: Weisman’s peak (4,620m)
Take your morning breakfast. Climb Weisman’s peak 4,620m which is 3.7km away and return. You will have packed lunch. The top of Weisman’s peak is relatively flat or dome shaped with deep moss growing on rocks creating a beautiful atmosphere. From the peak descend directly to Kiharo camp 3,460m down the Nyamwamba valley. The area is rich in ever green plants and babbling streams. Sleep at Bugata camp
Day 6: Descend the mountain
Have morning breakfast. Start the trail down Nyamwamba valley is mostly downhill and absolutely stunning with beautiful views. There are moss covered rocks along the river, cascading waterfalls, deep valleys and forests possibly the best in Rwenzori mountain.
A few kilometres from Kiharo camp the path turns off to the right to pass along the river. In clear areas you may catch a glimpse of Duiker quietly feeding in small clearings as you pass along the river. Few kilometres down the river it becomes very steep with multitudes of waterfalls. Go on to Riverside Rock Shelter where you can have a meal. The forest along this section is truly beautiful with many birds, primates, duikers among others. Overnight stay Sine camp.
Day 7: Depart to Kampala
Enjoy your early morning breakfast. Drive back to Kasese town and head to Kampala. Stopover will be in Mubende for lunch at Dimmys Food Mart/Cafesserie/Piato restaurant. Proceed to Kampala and you will be dropped at the location of your choice or at Entebbe Airport for the evening flight.
